American Academy of Otolaryngology — Head and Neck Surgery Foundation updatedclinical practice guideline on Bell palsy.

L’American Academy of Otolaryngology — Head and Neck Surgery Foundation ha pubblicato l’aggiornamento 2013 delle linee guida sulla diagnosi ed il trattamento della paralisi periferica del VII nerco cranico (paralisi di Bell).

Tra le indicazioni principali:

  • Si enfatizza la necessità di una diagnosi differenziale con altre possibili cause di paralisi periferica del VII n.c come herpes zoster, malattia di Lyme e sarcoidosi
  • L’esecuzione routinaria di esami di laboratorio o imaging non è raccomandata nei casi a prima insorgenza
  • La somministrazione di corticosteroidi per via orale è raccomandata entro 72 ore dall’insorgenza dei sintomi in pazienti oltre i 16 anni d’età
  • Non è raccomandata la terapia antivirale nei casi di nuova insorgenza
